MAINTENANCE WORKER I TRANSPORTATION (Regular Full-Time)

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB   

Under direct supervision, performs a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled tasks in connection with the maintenance, repair and cleaning of buildings, grounds, and equipment.  Work performed independently is limited to sub-journey level tasks of a routine nature.  The position may assist higher-level maintenance personnel engaged in electrical, plumbing, building, mechanical and other trades related functions.  May also provide limited support to ferry operations as needed.  Assignments are received in oral and written form.  Reports to the Maintenance Director.

Essential Functions:  

Mows grass, maintains shrubbery and cleans grounds, parking lots, walkways and stairs.
 

Replaces and/or repairs light bulbs, switches, and other minor electrical items.
 

Paints buildings, cabinets, piers, and equipment.
 

Performs housekeeping duties.
 

Cleans floors, walls, carpets and rest rooms; performs minor plumbing work.
 

Washes and cleans tables, chairs, and windows.
 

Empties trash receptacles.
 

Picks up trash from all facilities, grounds, and trash collection areas.
 

Maintains and cleans loading dock areas.
 

Performs minor repairs to roads and parking lots (limited to filled pot holes and movement of dirt).
 

Performs routine maintenance on department vehicles.
 

Performs routine maintenance on baggage dollies.
 

Drives small trucks to deliver and pick up supplies.
 

Additional Duties
 

Be prepared to fulfill the duties of a Ferry Mate

Performs other related duties as required.  

                         MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE  

Ability to read and write English and one year experience performing a variety of tasks in minor maintenance and housekeeping of buildings, grounds and facilities; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.                                                     

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT (S)  

Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license.   

Requires the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
